Doctoral degree

The doctoral degree introduced in the UPC are organised in programmes-courses that finish with the elaboration of a doctoral thesis, awarding the Doctorate Degree.

The studies plans are regulated by the RD 99/2011, that has the objective to organise the doctoral studies.They are enrolled in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

 

The doctoral programme that the department teaches is classified in the Architecture, Urbanism and Environment knowledge field. The actual Doctoral Programme in Architectural, Civil and Urban Heritage and Refurbishment of Existing Buildings replaced the Doctoral Programme in Visual Communication in Architecture and Design, which was born in the course 2004/05 as a result of the restructuring of the Doctorate Program in "Architectural Representation. Systems and Technologies" (that started during the course 1986/87) and was obsolete since the 30th of September, 2017.

This interuniversity doctoral programme pursues to train researchers of management, coordination and elaboration subjects of multidisciplinary studies oriented in representation, modelling and refurbishment of built heritage.

Organises the participating doctorates group in the UPC research group Architectural, Design: Representation and Modelling (ADR&M), recognised by the Generalitat de Catalunya (2017 SGR 931 GRC), within which several themed fields are developed:
•    The knowledge of constructions of the past and of historical centers: historical and future evolution.
•    Charcterization of existing constructions: systems, conservation and adaptation.
•    Study and representation of architectural Heritage in Catalonia (archaeological/ historical)
•    The expression of the Architecture project. Analysis and development.
•    Landscape study and representation; its inherited relevance.
•    Heritage and public space. Cognitive and dynamic spaces.
•    Sustainable urban forms and processes of inherited and urban regeneration.
•    Modelling and visualization of architecture, civil engineering, urban and design.
•    New uses of architectural and urban heritage.
•    Vernacular and rural architecture. Heritage values and scale.
