Objectives

a) Traditional artistic techniques: pencil, charcoal, watercolour,  gouache.

b) Comprehensive experience of analyse architecture by these tools.

c) Organisational and composition strategies of the avant-gardes. 

d) To describe the physic urban environment or landscape in general.

The objective of the subject is to provide the student with training and enough graphic resources that allow them to establish a coherent graphic discourse with the development of the planning process, with the intention to achieve a fluent relation between architectural discourse and graphic representation.

It attempts to provide an adequate training for the architectural spaces' representation and training for a composition/constructive modern mindset influencing on the light treatment, correct proportion of elements, space gathering, materials and textures representation, using all the knowledge that has been received on the previous subjects and extended to an artistic training that examine the organisational, composition and structural processes that were provided by plastic experiences from the beginning of the 20th century.

 

Content

EXERCISE 1: COMPOSITION AND COLOUR.

Introduction to the treatment of colour and composition. The exercise is established in the artistic avant-gardes context of the 20th century. The basis is constituted by the practical examination of composition/organisational forms of the Modern Movement.

EXERCISE 2: ANALYSIS OF AN EXEMPLARY WORK OF THE MODERN ARCHITECTURE

The objective of this exercise is to achieve the graphic capacity that allows the interpretation, structure, construction, composition and other categories to interpret the exposed model. The analysis of the work will have as an initial source the examination of it through estimate drawing to bring closer to proportions, dimensions, scales, construction issues, etc. that will finally be deduced with accuracy.

EXERCISE 3: ANALYSIS OF THE VERNACULAR LANDSCAPE.

Representation of the landscape through inspection/analysis of its structural, textural, material conditions. The graphic study will extent to different scales: the focused and meticulous representation of vegetative species  will be compatible with abstract and general interpretations that affect all kinds of integral materials of the landscape. The experience will be moved from estimate drawings to very accurate drawings of peculiar nature of materials. All of this considered trough the study of landscape drawing/painting tradition.
